At the Border

ON THE SOUTH AFRICAN SIDE

Complete a vehicle temporary export document, have it stamped and then proceed to immigration with your passports.

ON THE MOZAMBICAN SIDE

Proceed to immigration with your passports and pay approximately R17 per person Tourism Tax. Next proceed to the customs desk, present your temporary export permit and pay approximately R20.

Very important - remember to buy your Third Party Insurance at the insurance desk
An additional payment to be made of approximately R80 for any trailer linked to a vehicle.

Alcohol - do not bring in any type of beer. The local beer is very good and customs officials are very strict on this rule. 1l of spirits is allowed per person.

En Route

  • Obey the speed limit in any towns - radar speed traps are common

  • Wear your safety belts in the front and rear at all times

  • If towing display a triangle on the front and back of vehicle

  • Take a tyre pump and pressure gauge - in soft sand deflate your tyres to approximately 1 bar (vehicle and trailer)

  • Don't give lifts

  • In the event of an accident you will be required to present your Third Party Insurance, a valid drivers' license and vehicle papers. You will also be required to make a statement at the nearest Police Station

  • Once you take the turn-off to Inhassoro the road becomes a single lane. You and the oncoming vehicles have to both go semi off the road. Please note oncoming vehicles do not always give way, especially trucks and taxis. Be careful when going off the tarred section as there are some big potholes on the side of the road. Ensure it is safe before you attempt it

  • Please enquire about the tides prior to arrival as we are dependent on them to reach the lodge

  • Next stop is Maxixe or Masinga

  • Next stop just pass the turn-off to Inhassoro
